I set my face like a flint

In reading scriptures today I came across this verse and wondered what it meant to be like flint.

For the Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded. Therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

(Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 7:7)

Flint is a variety of quartz that, due to its extreme hardness, is easily shaped by flaking. Known and used since very ancient times, flint was used by the Israelites for knives, ax heads, arrow heads, spear heads and starting fires. God wants us to be immovable by circumstances instead standing hard core like flint in His promises. .... I think it interesting that flint flakes off easily but in one direction.  The Lord wants us to be focused, being hard and tenacious in following him, but easily bent to his will (flake off) but only his will (one direction.)

I wrote the Manna From Heaven Program after God healed me from an eating disorder.  For years I desperately sought help for my obsession, thinking that if I just had more will power I could control my eating.

Pancacke Recipe and the Checklist to get into Heaven

In listening to a lesson on Love in church today they were discussing the commandments.  We are told to follow them.  There are a lot of them.  How do you not get lost in the checklist mentality of getting into Heaven?  The answer was to focus on what is the greatest commandment, or in other words what is the goal or the reason behind the commandments.  Understanding the intentions of God really helps us to truly follow the commandments in the spirit they were given.

So how does this relate to pancakes?  Following a recipe is much like following the commandments.  It is important to know what the goal is... to make yummy tasting pancakes.  (It would also be nice if they were a bit healthy too.)  The checklist of commandments are like the directions in the recipe.  It is really important that you put in 2 eggs, not 20.  Adding the baking powder before the salt is not really important, but both need added.  

So, in conclusion, when making pancakes and when loving, we can follow the rules to obtain the goal.  We must not forget that the rules are not the goal.  The commandments of God are the means to become like him, and since he is love, love must be the goal.

The Human is created in the image of the cell

I am listening to "The Biology of Belief" by Bruce H. Lipton Ph.D..  He said that the Human is created in the image of the cell.  The cell has parts that function similar to the human body's organs.   A cell is composed of a community of molecules.  The human body is composed of a community of billions of cells.  So perhaps a God is composed of a community of humans.  Just as a cell is nothing compared to a human, a human is nothing compared to a God.

Enoch 14

Enoch describes the vision he had.  He lets the watchers know that nothing in the paper he wrote for them will happen.  That they will see their seed die and never be saved.  Enoch, in his dream, came to a habitation made of crystal stones.  Then he saw a second one that was huge.  He saw a throne that appeared like frost but also like the sun.  He understood that God was on the throne, but knew that no one could look upon him because he had so much glory.  Enoch had a veil over his face.  God commands him to come.  He is compelled forward and raised up.

This description of God in His Glory on his throne is very well put.

17Attentively I surveyed it, and saw that it contained an exalted throne;
¹⁸The appearance of which was like that of frost; while its circumference resembled the orb of the brilliant sun; and there was the voice of the cherubim.
¹⁹From underneath this mighty throne rivers of flaming fire issued.
²⁰To look upon it was impossible.

Michael - means "Who Is Like God"
