Genesis 2:10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11 The name of the first is Pison:
The Hebrew text could be interpreted to mean that the rivers start elsewhere and all meet in Eden. This feels correct.
There are lots of guesses to which river was the Pishon. 2 of the other 4 are known.

ReplyDeleteI assume you are aware of the following footnote to Moses 3:13:
"In the area of Eden and Adam-ondi-Ahman there were rivers and lands that received names that were later attached to other lands and rivers. As to the location of Eden and its environs, see D&C 117: 8-9."
In my own words, modern rivers with ancient names, especially those before the flood, not to mention subsequent changes to the earth's surface, can hardly be considered the "same rivers."
Funny you should mention that. I noticed that note on Sunday and I was about to add a note to this post!
